The Sea

I fell in love with the sea during my early teens. At the age of fourteen, during my first trip to Digha. Since then it has been a sweet story. Whenever we have met, we have renewed our pledge of love.

I was in a crowd. A crowd of fourteen, that consisted parents, uncles, aunts and cousins. Yet, I was alone .......very much alone.......as is typical of that age (or is this true for any age?). I remember that moment distinctly. I woke up in the bus, suddenly. I could feel something, something strange.....something different, something new. Something, I had never felt before. I asked my folks if the sea was near and they didnt know. But indeed, it was. Within a couple of minutes the bus pulled up at the Digha bus stop. There was no mistake. I had fallen for the sea. Even before I had ever seen it.

The sea loved me all over. She touched me .... every bit of my skin. We played..... for hours. People love the sea for different reasons. The vastness, the depths, the waves. I love her for the warmth and the intimacy.

As much as I love to bathe in the sea, I like to spend hours looking at her. She reminds me of the thin line between existence and eternity. Between what I can harness and what always remains beyond me, between my triumphs and my utter helplessness.

The saga continues, much like the waves ....... relentless and lyrical.
